Volleyball Falls to Delaware in Weekend Finale

STONY BROOK, N.Y. --The Stony Brook volleyball team concluded their weekend with the Delaware Blue Hens by falling 3-1 (20-25, 8-25, 25-23, 20-25) on Sunday at Pritchard Gymnasium.
 

Kali Moore finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Seawolves' offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .278. Defensively, Stony Brook had three players reach double figures in digs, including Julia Patsos' 16, and 12 each from Torri Henry and Lauren Schmitz

HOW IT HAPPENED 

SET 1 | Stony Brook jumped out to an early 9-6 lead following back-to-back kills from Ava JacksonLeoni Kunz gave the Seawolves back the lead after she tallied a kill at 10-9, but the Blue Hens would go on to score 12 of the next 15 points to take control and secure the opening set, winning it 25-20. 
 

SET 2 | The Seawolves lost set two 25-8 and would fall behind in the match 2-0. The Blue Hens used an early 10-0 run to pull away for the second-set victory. 

SET 3 | Stony Brook rallied back to pull within two sets to one. Pinpoint serving from Moore and Campbell helped the Seawolves win the set 25-23, as each tallied two aces in the frame. The Seawolves scored the first five points in the set, picking up three aces in the run. Delaware would go on to take a 20-16 lead, but Stony Brook fought back and won seven of eight to grab the 23-21 lead. With things tied at 23, Stony Brook got kills from Moore and Lani Mason to finish off the set.
 



SET 4 | The team couldn't keep the rally going in the fourth set and fell 25-20 to drop the match. The Seawolves trailed by as many as 10 at 19-9 but fought back to cut the defcit to four at 23-19, before Delaware won two of the last three points to finish off the match. 

STATS AND NOTES 
  • Stony Brook had three players in double figures in digs (Patsos, Schmitz, and Henry).
  • Moore had a match-high five aces and 14 kills in the loss. She tied her season-high in serves as she had five against Columbia on Sept. 6. Also, it was the 11th time she tallied 10 or more kills which leads the team. 
  • The CAA leader in assists-per-set dished out 34 this afternoon. She now has 813 for the season and finished with 65 for the weekend. 
  • Stony Brook got a match-high 16 digs from Patsos. She is second in the CAA in digs this season and has 10 or more digs in her last four matches.
  • The Seawolves had 10 aces compared to the eight by the Blue Hens. 
  • Stony Brook had 58 digs compared to the 56 by Delaware.
  • Stony Brook is now 2-4 all-time against the Blue Hens. 
NEXT UP
The Seawolves will return to the court next weekend when they head to Maryland to battle Towson on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. Stony Brook will look to secure its first-ever victory against Towson on Saturday in their 11th meeting all-time.
