LINCOLN, Neb. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team fell to Nebraska, 84-63, on Wednesday evening at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Jared Frey and Dean Noll combined to score 29 points in the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two sides went back and forth to open play, with a layup from Noll giving the Seawolves a 9-8 advantage six minutes into action. Stony Brook then fell behind, trailing 15-9 before ripping off five straight points to make it a one-point contest with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half.
A three pointer from Aaron Clarke evened the score at 21-21 with six minutes to play in the opening stanza. The Huskers outscored the Seawolves 15-7 over the final six minutes of the first half, leaving the Seawolves in a 36-28 hole entering halftime.Â
The Seawolves came out firing to begin the second half, shooting 9-14 from the field and 3-6 from three, forcing a Nebraska timeout and trimming the deficit to seven points with 12 minutes to play. Nebraska answered with a 16-5 run to open up an 18-point lead, the largest of the evening, with just over six minutes to play at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The Huskers would ultimately increase their lead to more than 20 points and close out an 84-63 victory over Stony Brook.
STATS AND NOTES
- Jared Frey scored a team-high 15 points, the second time this season the sophomore has paced the Seawolves offensively.Â
- Chris Maidoh posted a season-high nine points and eight rebounds. Defensively, he added a block and a steal as well.
- The Seawolves were out-rebounded 45-28 in the contest. Nebraska grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and scored 12 second-chance points, while also scoring 42 points inside the paint.
- Nebraska entered play on Wednesday leading the Big Ten in points against per game (52.0) and field goal percentage defense (.311); Stony Brook bested both of those marks, shooting 37.9 percent and scoring 63 points in the loss.
- Wednesday evening marked the first-ever meeting between Stony Brook and Nebraska. The Seawolves moved to 2-15 all-time against Big Ten opponents with tonight's loss.

"Nebraska played at a high-level in the second half, offensively, and I give them a lot of credit," head coach Geno Ford said. "We've got to get better on defense, so that's got to get corrected."
