PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Stony Brook women's basketball moved past Maryland Eastern Shore, building up a 22-point lead to cruise to a 76-63 victory against the Hawks at Wiliam P. Hychte Athletic Center on Wednesday.
The Seawolves (3-0) again had three players in double figures, led by Khari Clark with 21 points, and backed up by Victoria Keenan with 16 and Gigi Gonzalez with 13. Clark added 10 rebounds to grab her second double-double of the season. Zaida Gonzalez led the pack in distribution with five assists on the evening.
Stony Brook shot 48.1% from the field and 41.7% from three on Wednesday, led from deep by Keenan who drained 5-of-10 shots from beyond the arc. Five more Seawolves contributed a three of their own.
On the defensive side of the court, Stony Brook forced 17 UMES turnovers, with eight steals as a team, as six different players grabbed swipes on the evening. The Seawolves cleaned up on the defensive glass, winning in defensive boards 23-17.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
After jumping out to a 6-4 advantage, Stony Brook went on a 9-0 run by the 6:25 mark of the first quarter to increase its lead to 15-4, taking a 21-14 lead after 15 minutes.
Up 29-21, Stony Brook went on a 6-0 run starting at the 4:40 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Kelis Corley, to increase its lead to 35-21. The Seawolves still carried a 44-31 advantage heading into halftime. Stony Brook was strong from deep in the period, knocking down five three-pointers to account for 15 of its 23 points.
Stony Brook wasted no time building on its lead in the third, starting on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Clark, to expand its lead further to 50-31 just 1:32 into the second half, and carried an 18-point lead at the end of the quarter at 61-43.
Stony Brook saw its lead cut to 10 in the fourth, but held the double-digit advantage and put the game away with a 5-0 spurt to grow the lead to 70-55 with 2:54 to go in the contest.

- The Seawolves have started 3-0 for the second time under head coach Ashley Langford, also having done so in the 2021-22 season.
- Stony Brook has made 10 threes for the third straight game and has three consecutive games of double-digit triples for the first time since at least 2013.
- The Seawolves held UMES to 36.7% from the field, with both opponents shooting under 40% from the floor for the road trip.
- Stony Brook lead by double-digits for the final 20:58 of the game, and enjoyed 38:32 of total lead time.
