Men's Basketball Tops Brown, Improves to 6-1 at Island Federal Arena

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team defeated Brown, 69-65, on Friday evening at Island Federal Arena. Aaron Clarke scored a team-high 19 points, while Keenan Fitzmorris added 16 points and Chris Maidoh tacked in 10 points. The Seawolves close the calendar year as winners of five of their last six and head into CAA play with a 7-6 mark overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook fell behind 7-2 early, but used a 14-0 run, culminating in a three from Clarke, to grab a 16-7 lead.

The Bears narrowed the gap to five points and would eventually take hold of a 22-20 lead with less than seven minutes to play in the first half. The two sides traded baskets back-and-forth, trading leads over the next two minutes of action. A triple from Jared Frey evened the contest once more in the first half, but Brown would carry a one-point advantage into the intermission.

Stony Brook gained control in the second half, grabbing the lead and expanding it to 12 points, 50-38, with 13 minutes remaining in the contest. Another trifecta from Frey put the Seawolves ahead by 15 points, the largest lead of the evening for either side.

The Bears did not go away, trimming the deficit to single digits down the stretch. Brown came within one possession of Stony Brook after a 16-2 run over a six-minute span, but could not get over the hump in the final minute. Clarke put the game on ice, converting on a pair of free throws with six seconds left, helping the Seawolves to their fifth win in their last six games heading into league play.
