STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Khari Clark totaled 23 points and Gigi Gonzalez tallied 19 points to help lead the Stony Brook women's basketball team past the Yale Bulldogs, 81-66, at home on Wednesday.
The Seawolves had three players score in double figures, led by Clark, who had 23 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Gigi Gonzalez tacked on 19 points and Sherese Pittman helped out with 10 points, adding nine rebounds and two blocks. Led by Clark's four offensive rebounds, Stony Brook was crashing the offensive glass all afternoon, pulling down 16 boards that resulted in 13 second -chance points. The Stony Brook defense held the opposition to a 38.5 percent mark from the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 9-8 out of the gate, Stony Brook went on a 7-0 run with 2:38 left in the first quarter, culminating with a bucket from Janay Brantley, to take a 15-9 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Stony Brook did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 15 points close to the basket.
The Seawolves increased their lead in the second stanza and entered halftime with a 39-29 edge. Stony Brook continued its dominance in the paint, scoring 20 of its 24 points inside. Gigi Gonzlaez and Clark tallied eight points each around the hoop.
Stony Brook used a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Shamarla King, to start the second half and expand its lead further to 59-47 with 3:05 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Bulldogs had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Seawolves still entered the fourth quarter with a 63-56 edge. Stony Brook's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled 10 of the team's 24 third-quarter points to provide a spark.
Stony Brook kept its lead intact, then used a 9-0 run to grow the lead to 76-62 with 3:53 to go in the contest. The Seawolves kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 81-66 win.

- Stony Brook got a game-high nine rebounds from Pittman. She now has double-figures in her last four games and has tallied at least seven rebounds in her last five games. She was also 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
- Gigi Gonzalez tallied 19 points and has now scored double-figures in all eight of Stony Brook's games this season.
- Keenan and Zaida Gonzalez both scored eight points, while Brantley tallied seven points.
