Baseball Falls Late In Series Finale At Cal State Northridge

Paradine Goes Yard, DeGennaro Returns To The Bump

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Stony Brook baseball team fell in game three of their three game set with Cal State Northridge today, Feb. 19, 8-4.

Former First-Team All America East recipient and preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention graduate student Nick DeGennaro tossed five innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and didn't surrender a walk in his first start since February 25, 2022 at South Florida.

Stony Brook (0-3, 0-0 CAA) wasted no time by putting the pressure on the Matador defense in the first inning. Junior Evan Fox, who was 31-for-33 in stolen base attempts last season, put himself into scoring position after drawing a walk and then stealing the bag.

After Senior Matt Brown-Eiring advanced Fox to third base on a fly-ball, the squad would capture their first homerun of the season as senior Shane Paradine belted the ball over the left field fence, giving the Seawolves a 2-0 lead.

The Matadors would score a run back in the bottom of the first. But, DeGennaro did not allow the CSUN offensive to get into any rhythm as he allowed just two hits and one run over the next four innings.

CSUN got to the Stony Brook bullpen in the sixth and scored two runs in the inning. The Matadors would go on to score four more in the eighth to take the victory 8-4.
