STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the first time since 2020, the Stony Brook men's lacrosse program hosted its annual face-off night ahead of its season opener. Over 250 guests, which consisted of the current team, 2023 commits, alumni, and supporters gathered at the Meadow Club in Port Jefferson Station to celebrate the beginning of another season of Seawolves' men's lacrosse.
The event, which was sponsored by B&G Transportation Group LLC and Eliel Pimintel at Edward Jones raised over $10,000 which directly supports the men's lacrosse program.
"Face-off night is a special night for our Stony Brook men's lacrosse family. It is a way to connect the past, present and future of our program. We had over 250 people, which included over 35 alums and a handful of former coaches to celebrate the history and tradition of Stony Brook men's lacrosse. It is always a great moment when our alums present our newcomers their jersey as a 'welcome to the family moment'. We were also fortunate to raise over $10,000," said head coach
Anthony Gilardi.
Over 35 men's lacrosse alumni were in attendance ranging in graduation years from 1984-2022. Former men's lacrosse head coach and current assistant director of facilities John Espey served as the keynote speaker as he helped connect the past with the present as he recounted the history of Stony Brook lacrosse.
The Seawolves continued their jersey presentation tradition as the alumni presented the program's 25 newcomers with their jerseys as a way to welcome them to the Stony Brook family.
Stony Brook begins the 2023 season as it is set to go head-to-head with No. 9/10 Rutgers on Saturday, February 11, at 1 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J. The Seawolves' home opener at LaValle Stadium will take place on Friday, February 24, at 2 p.m. against Air Force.
