RICHMOND, Va. – The Stony Brook softball team was picked to finish in fifth place in the 2023 Preseason Colonial Athletic Association Poll, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. In addition, three Seawolves were selected to the 2023 CAA Preseason Watch List.
The Seawolves received 69 points in the preseason poll, which was voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. UNCW is the preseason favorite in the conference, as the Seahwawks earned 95 points and five first-place votes. Delaware also earned five first-place votes, finishing in second with 91 total points in the poll. Hofstra received one first-place vote and finished in third place in the poll with 80 points. Elon was the final team picked to finish ahead of the Seawolves.
The conference also announced its 2023 CAA Preseason Watch List selections, with three Seawolves garnering honors.
Senior catcher
Corinne Badger, junior infielder
Ashley Jacobson, and sophomore infielder/outfielder
Alyssa Costello all earned a spot on the CAA Preseason Watch List.
Badger and Jacobson were selected to the All-America East First Team and Costello was selected to the All-America East Second Team and All-Rookie Team last season.
Stony Brook gets the 2023 season underway on Friday, Feb. 10 at Florida Atlantic. The team will play five games in three days to open up the season at the FAU Paradise Classic. Following its game against FAU, Stony Brook will face Mississippi State and Bethune-Cookman on Saturday and Iowa and Loyola Chicago on Sunday.
The Seawolves will open CAA play for the first time ever on March 11 at Elon.
