SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 6 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team (5-2, 1-0 CAA) fell to the No.1 Syracuse Orange (10-0, 4-0 ACC) on Wednesday night inside the JMA Wireless Dome.
Senior attacker
Morgan Mitchell had herself a career day, exploding for a career-high seven goals, four of which came in just the first quarter of the contest. Mitchell also tallied a career-high seven points.
Senior midfielder
Charlotte Verhulst added to the Seawolves' offense, registering a pair of goals on the night. Graduate attacker
Jolie Creo and sophomore attacker
Casey Colbert both added a goal.
Stony Brook came out strong, getting on the board first courtesy of Mitchell finding the back of the cage off an assist from junior midfielder
Jaden Hampel to set the tone early in the first quarter.
The Seawolves grabbed hold of a quick 3-2 lead, however the Orange would not stay silent for long as Megan Carney found the back of the cage to tie the contest at 3-3 with 8:29 left to play in the first quarter.
Stony Brook and Syracuse took turns exchanging blows in the first and went into the quarter break all knotted up. 5-5. The Seawolves came out of the break with a mission, scoring within less than a minute into the second quarter to take the lead yet again, 6-5.
With 3:35 left to play in the second quarter, the Orange's Megan Carney scored again off an assist from Emma Ward to give Syracuse its first lead of the contest, 9-8. The Seawolves would not be able to keep up as the Orange would run away with the lead and ultimately the 16-11 victory.
STATS AND NOTES

- Verhulst recorded a pair of goals and dished out an assist to tally three points. The senior has registered at least one goal and one assist in five of the past seven games.
- Creo found the back of the net and added an assist as well as recording a caused turnover.
- Senior attacker Kailyn Hart dished out a team-high four helpers, tying her career high.
- Graduate goalie Hailey Duchnowski stood tall in the cage, recording a season-high nine saves.
- The Seawolves won the battle on the ground, picking up 19 ground balls to the Orange's 14.
