Rutt Wins 800 Meter to Highlight Final Day at Monmouth for Women’s Track & Field

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Stony Brook women's track and field team competed in the final day of the Monmouth Spring Opener on Sunday.
 
Graduate Samantha Rutt highlighted the final day of the meet for the Seawolves with a first-place finish in the 800 meter with a final time of 2:17.44. Graduate Tara Hauff finished directly behind Rutt in second with a final time of 2:18.57.
 
Graduate Siara Guevara kept the momentum rolling for the squad with a second-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with her final time of 1:04.55.
 
Graduate Akajia Atkins and senior Aristea Franks also earned podium finishes. Atkins secured a third-place finish and a new personal best in the 100 meter with a final time of 12.12. Franks clocked in at 57.83 which was good for a third-place finish and a new personal best in the 400 meter.
 
The 4x100 relay team comprised of Jaelyn Davis, Dana Cerbone, Enyero Omokeni, and Franks earned a third-place finish with a combined final time of 48.45.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rutt earned a first-place finish in the 800 meter with a final time of 2:17.44. Hauff finished directly behind Rutt in second with a final time of 2:18.57. Rebecca Clackett rounded out the top 15 with a final time of 2:24.38.
  • Guevara secured a second-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a final time of 1:04.55.
  • Atkins secured a third-place finish and a new personal best in the 100 meter with a final time of 12.12. Cerbone and Davis finished behind Atkins in 11th and 21st place, respectively.
  • Franks clocked in at 57.83 which was good for a third-place finish and a new personal best in the 400 meter. Omokeni crossed the line in 58.16 to earn a fifth-place finish.
  • Jada Hodge and Samantha St. Juste completed the top 20 for the Seawolves, earning 12th and 19th place finishes, respectively. St. Juste also set a new personal best with a final time of 1:02.11.
  • Cerbone led the way in the 200 meter with a fifth-place finish and a final time of 24.94. Franks finished directly behind Cerbone in sixth and set a new personal best with a final time of 25.08. Omokeni rounded out the top 10 with an eighth-place finish.
  •  Atkins and St. Juste both set new personal bests in the 200 meter with their final times of 26.16 and 26.87, respectively.
  • Alexandria Earle recorded a mark of 1.55m to earn a ninth-place finish in the high jump.
  • Cheyenne Baxter Gregory set a new personal record in the shot put with a final mark of 10.36m which was good for a 15th place finish.
  • Sabrina Spezia earned a top 20 finish and a new personal best in the 1500 meter with a final time of 4:57.03. Amelie Guzman follow directly behind Spezia and also secured a new personal best.
 
NEXT UP
Stony Brook is back on the track next weekend (March 31 – April 1) when it travels down to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in the Colonial Relays.
