STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook softball team (11-15, 2-7 CAA) fell to UNC Wilmington (13-17, 7-3 CAA), 10-4, on Friday afternoon at University Field.
The Seahawks got off to a hot start, scoring two unearned runs in the top of the first inning. UNC Wilmington add to its early lead with six more runs in the top of the third and fourth innings.
Despite the 8-0 deficit, the Seawolves kept battling and senior catcher
Corinne Badger gave the squad their first run of the ball game with a solo home run in the fourth. Stony Brook added two more runs in the fifth when sophomore outfielder
Alyssa Costello scored, and senior infielder
Brooke Dye hit a double to left to plate
Julianna Sanzone.
Junior utility
Catherine Anne Kupinski kept the momentum rolling for the Seawolves in the sixth with a double to right which brought home Badger and cut the squad's deficit to 8-4.
However, that would be the closest Stony Brook would get to the Seahawks as they brought in two more runs in the seventh to run away with the 10-4 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- Badger went 2-3 at the dish with a solo homer and two runs scored. The senior smashed her seventh home run of the season.
- Sanzone also went 2-3 at the plate and added a run scored.
- Kupinski recorded a double which brought in a RBI for the Seawolves.
- Dye went 1-3 which included a double and a RBI.
