RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook senior catcher
Corinne Badger has been named the CAA Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Badger becomes the first player in program history to earn CAA Player of the Week, following junior pitcher
Mia Haynes who earned CAA Pitcher of the Week last week, in the team's inaugural season in the conference.
Badger hit .470 (8-17), tallying three home runs, six RBI, and four runs scored for the Seawolves at the FIU Classic this past weekend. The catcher also recorded a .500 on-base percentage. Stony Brook's weekend in Miami was highlighted by Badger going 3-for-3 with three homers, four RBI, and three runs scored in the 10-1 run-ruled victory over Stonehill on Friday, March 3.
The senior became the third student-athlete in the NCAA this season to hit three home runs in a game this season (Allie Cummins from Miami Ohio hit three vs. IPFW on Feb. 15 and Jayda Kearney from Georgia hit three vs. Ohio State on Feb. 10). Badger is the first CAA student-athlete to hit three home runs in a game this season and the first overall CAA athlete to accomplish the feat since former CAA member JMU's Hannah Shifflett hit a trio of homers against George Mason on March 30, 2022.
The Pleasant Valley, N.Y., native registered at least one hit in all five games over the weekend and extended her hitting streak to eight consecutive games.
The Seawolves will return to the diamond on Saturday, March 11, when they travel south to Elon, N.C. to play Elon in Stony Brook's first-ever CAA contest. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on FloSoftball.
