Warren, Pittman & Gonzalez Claim All-CAA Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – Graduate guard Anastasia Warren, sophomore forward Sherese Pittman, and senior guard Gigi Gonzalez each were tabbed to the All-CAA Team, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Warren was named to the All-Conference First Team, while Pittman was selected to the All-Conference Second Team, and Gonzalez garnered All-Conference Third Team honors.
 
Anchoring the league's second-best scoring offense by ranking fourth in the CAA with 16.7 points per game, Warren also led the CAA and is tied for 11th in the nation with 90 three-point field goals. Also, her 41.0 percent from deep this season (90-of-219) was good for 26th-best in the country. In 21 of 29 games this season, the Georgia native tallied double-figure points, including 20 or more points in nine of those games.
 
On February 9, she cemented her name in the Stony Brook record book after breaking the career made three-pointer record with her 192nd triple. The guard became the 19th player in Stony Brook women's basketball program history to score at least 1,000 points in her career on November 14, 2022. She scored a season-high 30 points, on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, and 7-of-11 from three-point range, which marked a new career-high in three pointers, to lead the Seawolves to an 82-75 win at the College of Charleston on February 17.
 
Pittman made her presence felt on Long Island in her first season by averaging 13.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game. Pittman was dominant on the offensive glass this season, as she led the conference with 92 offensive rebounds, averaging 3.4 per game, and her 8.7 total rebounds was second in the conference. The native of Richmond, Va., collected 291 rebounds this season, which is sixth all-time in a single-season by a Stony Brook student-athlete. Also, Pittman was 142-of -291 from the field (48.8%), which was also second in conference. On November 23, the forward finished with a career-high 26 points and eight rebounds against High Point. She exploded for a career-best 16 rebounds against Manhattan on November 10.
 
The floor general for the Seawolves, Gonzalez, finished the season with 4.3 assists per game, which was second in the conference. Also, the Floridian tallied a new career-best 12.7 points per game that was tied for 15th in the conference. The point guard had eight games this season where she tallied 20 or more points and has 12 games this season with at least five assists. Gonzalez was highly efficient from the free-throw line this season, as she shot 79-of-93 (84.9%) that was good for fourth-best in the conference. The senior led Stony Brook with 1.9 steals, which were the eighth-most in the league.
 
On December 7, 2022, Gonzalez erupted for a career-high 28 points and dished out three assists vs. Columbia. The guard notched her first double-figure assist game of her career on January 20, 2023, after dishing out 10 dimes at North Carolina A&T.
 
No. 6 Stony Brook will take on No. 11 Elon in the second round of the CAA Championship on Thursday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the SECU Arena in Towson, Md. The game will be broadcast live on FloHoops.
