Women’s Track & Field Earns Three Top-Five Finishes at Day One of Colonial Relays; Earns 10th Place Finish Overall

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Stony Brook women's track and field team competed at the Colonial Relays hosted by William and Mary on March 31st – April 1st.
 
Sophomore Grace Weigele paced the Seawolves at day one of the Colonial Relays with a second-place finish and a new personal best in the 5000 meter invitational. Weigele crossed the line in 16:32.28.
 
Graduates Tara Hauff and Siara Guevara rounded out the top five finishes for Stony Brook. Hauff earned a third-place finish and a new personal best in the 800 meter with a final time of 2:16.34. Guevara secured a fourth-place finish and a new personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a final time of 1:03.64.
 
Graduate Samantha Rutt set the tone on day two with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meter invitational with a final time of 2:13.57.
 
The team finished tied for 10th place overall with George Mason with a total of 27 points.
 
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Enyero Omokeni and Aristea Franks earned top 10 finishes and new personal bests in the 400 meter with final times of 56.70 and 56.82, respectively.
  • Jada Hodge clocked in at 12.03 to earn a ninth-place finish and a new personal best in the 100 meter dash. Akajia Atkins completed the top 25 for the Seawolves with a new personal best time of 12.28.
  • Dana Cerbone clocked in at 24.89 which was good for an 11th place finish in the 200 meter dash.
  • Niamh Durcan crossed the line in 4L:47.32 to earn a 10th place finish and a new personal best in the 1500 meter.
  • Nicole Garcia and Grace Sisson finished behind Weigele in the 5000 meter invitational. Garcia earned a 13th place finish while Sisson finished on 19th.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Danella Dawkins earned a 10th place finish and a new personal best in the 100 meter hurdles invitational with a final time of 14.53.
  • The 4x200 relay team secured a third-place finish with a combined final time of 1:40.66. The squad was comprised of Atkins, Hodge, A. Franks, and Omokeni.
  • The 4x100 relay squad earned an eighth-place finish with a final time of 48.54. The team was made up of Jaelyn Davis, Atkins, Cerbone, and Omokeni.
NEXT UP
Stony Brook is back on the track on Friday, April 14 when it competes at the Northeast Challenge in Storrs, Conn. and at the Friar Invitational in Providence, R.I.
