Baseball Falls to Northeastern in Series Finale

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team (13-20, 5-10 CAA) dropped the finale of a three-game CAA set against Northeastern University (27-7, 9-5 CAA), 5-0, on Sunday at Joe Nathan Field.

The Seawolves sent out first-year student Eddie Smink to make his fourth start of the season and ninth appearance of the year. The right-hander battled all afternoon and finished his 5.1 innings on the bump by allowing four runs (earned), struck out three, and surrendered six hits. It was the third time in his last four starts that the Smink finished at least five innings.

The Huskies limited the Seawolves to six hits in the contest. The squad was paced offensively by graduate Evan Giordano and Brett Paulsen. The corner duo for Stony Brook both registered two-hit performances. The junior tandem of Evan Fox and Ryan Micheli at the top of the order both registered a single.

After going down in order in the first inning, the team from Boston would tally the first run of the game on a home run in the second inning. They would score another run in the third inning and two more in the sixth inning to take a 4-0 advantage.

Graduate Nick DeGennaro completed the final 3.2 innings out of the pen for the Seawolves. He allowed one run (earned) and struck out three batters as Northeastern secured the 5-0 victory.
