Brennan Becomes First Student-Athlete to Win an Outdoor CAA Championship Title; Abel Sets New Program Record

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Stony Brook men's track and field team competed in the program's first-ever outdoor CAA Championships on May 5-6.
 
Senior Evan Brennan made program history on Friday at the first day of the CAA Championships. Brennan earned a first-place finish in the 10000 meter with a final time of 31:18.87 to become the first student-athlete in program history to earn an outdoor CAA Championship title.
 
Senior Patrick Abel kept the history making rolling for the squad with a new program record in the 200 meter. Abel clocked in at 21.46 in the 200 meter to also qualify for the finals on Saturday. He also set a new program record in the 100 meter with a final time of 10.65.
 
On the final day of the meet, Abel beat his previous time and set another program record in the 200 meter. The senior earned a fourth-place overall finish in the event with a final time of 21.41. He also earned a second-place overall finish in the 100 meter with a final time of 10.78.
 
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Robert Becker, Aidan Smyth, and Conor Malanaphy all qualified for the finals in the 1500 meter. Malanaphy also set a new personal best with his final time of 3:52.10.
  • Miles Ryan qualified for finals in the 110 meter hurdles with a final time of 14.90. Ryan also qualified for the finals in the 400 meter hurdles with a final time of 55.56.
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Becker secured a second-place overall finish in the 1500 meter with a final time of 3:43.95. Smyth clocked in at 3:47.13 to earn a seventh-place overally final and a new personal best. Malanaphy earned an 11th place finish.
  • Shane Henderson earned a second-place finish in the 5000 meter with a final time of 14:10.96.
  • Ryan set a new personal best and earned a fifth-place overall finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a final time of 55.32. He also secured an eighth-place overall finish in the 110 meter hurdles.
  • Gavin Da Vanzo earned a fifth-place overall finish in the high jump with a final mark of 1.90m.
  • The 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Alex Kanes, Joshua Titus, Abel and Justin Vazquez eanred a fourth-place overall finish with a combined time of 42.31.
