STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook women's soccer converted a second-half penalty to tie the game, but UMass converted the game-winner off a rebound nine minutes later to take a 2-1 victory at LaValle Stadium Thursday night.
The Seawolves' lone goal came on a penalty by sophomore
Linn Beck in the 75th minute. In goal, junior
Nicolette Pasquarella made five saves on the evening for a .714 save percentage. Stony Brook took nine shots in total, with two each coming from Beck and sophomore
Luciana Setteducate.
The Minutewomen struck in the 60th minute to open the scoring, as Ashley Lamond found the bottom left corner from the near side.
In the 75th minute, Stony Brook drew a hand ball in the box for a penalty. Sophomore
Linn Beck stepped to the spot and converted in the top left corner for the game-tying tally.
UMass retook the lead with a rebound goal by Nia Hislop in front of the net in the 84th minute. Two minutes later, Stony Brook had a chance off a cross-box pass but the ensuing shot hit the post.
STATS AND NOTES
- Beck scored her seventh career goal and has 18 points in 17 collegiate games.
- The total shots were even 9-9, but UMass led in shots on goal 7-2.
- There were just five corners total in the game with Stony Brook taking three of the five.
- Thursday was the 13th time in her 21 career appearances in which Pasquarella made at least five saves.

"I thought we had a good preseason and I thought we were prepared for the game," Head Coach
Tobias Bischof remarked postgame. "We definitely saw some positives in the game but also we saw some negatives. Now it's time to work on those, and try to get a better result on Sunday."
NEXT UP
The Seawolves are back at LaValle Stadium to close the weekend on Sunday, Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. against Bryant. Sunday's matchup will be streamed on FloFC. The Seawolves took a 3-1 road victory against the Bulldogs last season and the overall series is tied 2-2.
