Coastal Athletic Association Announces 2023-24 Men's Basketball Conference Schedule

8/8/2023 2:00:00 PM

RICHMOND, Va. – The Coastal Athletic Conference revealed its 2023-24 men's basketball conference opponents for the league schedule on Tuesday, as the Seawolves are set to play an 18-game league schedule with nine matchups inside The Island Federal Arena and hit the road for nine trips.

Head coach Geno Ford enters his fifth year at the helm of Stony Brook. Ford's squad will compete in five home-and-home series with Hofstra, Delaware, Northeastern, Monmouth and William & Mary. The Seawolves will face off against the reigning CAA Tournament Champions Charleston, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, and UNCW once at The Island and hit the road for one matchup against the newest member of the CAA, Campbell, Drexel, Elon, and Towson.

Stony Brook collected 11 wins last season, including six wins in their inaugural season in the CAA. The Seawolves earned the 11-seed in the CAA Tournament and defeated seven-seeded North Carolina A&T, 76-61, which marked their first-ever CAA Tournament appearance and win in program history. The Seawolves will also want to continue to defend their home court. The Seawolves are 38-20 over the last three-plus years at The Island.

The CAA featured three teams with 24 wins or more during the 2022-23 season with Hofstra earning the league's regular season title, going 16-2 in league play. In the tournament, two-seeded Charleston defeated four-seeded UNCW, 63-58, to secure the program's second conference championship. Drexel defeated Elon in the 2021 championship, while Hofstra took down Northeastern in 2020. Hofstra and Charleston became the first duo of CAA teams to both reach 16 conference wins in the same season and only three CAA teams had achieved 16-2 regular season conference records prior to last season.

The conference as a whole had two national postseason tournament appearances in the 2022-23 campaign. Hofstra earned an NIT bid, while College of Charleston captured a trip to the NCAA Tournament as the 12-seed.

Tyler Stephenson-Moore and Keenan Fitzmorris return to lead Stony Brook's offense. The two combined for more than 750 points last season and 250 rebounds; they were both top-three on the team in numerous offensive categories such as points, rebounds, field goals, and free throws. Also, Stephenson-Moore was tabbed to the All-Conference Third Team, becoming the first student-athlete in program history to take home a CAA All-Conference award. The guard played 40 or more minutes in 11 games and averaged the fourth-most minutes per game in the entire NCAA.
