Women’s Soccer Knocked Off by Towson in Maryland

TOWSON, Md. -- The Stony Brook women's soccer team was defeated by Towson University, 3-0, on Thursday night at Tiger Field in Maryland. The meeting was the first between the Seawolves and Tigers since Sept. 8, 2006, which ended in a Stony Brook victory.

Towson struck first in the 26th minute when Nia Christopher found the back of the net off a feed from Sydney Cradle. The Tigers went on to add their second goal in the 44th minute and third and final tally in the 60th minute of play.

The Seawolves' best two scoring chances came in the 25th and 77th minutes, respectively. On the first scoring chance, Linn Beck sent a shot to the bottom left of the net but was saved. In the 77th minute, Graceann Murphy had her shot blocked that forced a corner-kick by Stony Brook, but the effort on the set play came up just short to cut the Tigers deficit.

Goalkeeper Ava King entered the match for the Seawolves in the second half and kept the Tigers off the sheet for the final 20 minutes of the match. More details to come.
