Four Double-Figure Scorers Propel Men's Basketball Past Monmouth

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball defeated Monmouth, 72-65, on Thursday evening at Island Federal Arena. The Seawolves were led by four players in double figures, highlighted by Aaron Clarke's 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Stony Brook trailed 19-17 in a low-scoring first half, but a 5-0 run with 42 seconds left gave the Seawolves a 22-19 lead. Stony Brook then added to that lead on a buzzer-beating layup from Clarke, entering the half with a 24-20 advantage. Stony Brook capitalized on seven Monmouth turnovers in the period, turning them into seven points on the other end of the floor.

After falling behind in the early going of the second half, the Seawolves regained the lead after Chris Maidoh and Tyler Stephenson-Moore combined to grab an offensive rebound and find Clarke for a wide-open three.

Stony Brook then kept its lead intact and used a 7-0 run, finished off by  Stephenson-Moore's three to grow the lead to 62-53 with 3:09 to go in the contest.

The Hawks narrowed the margin before the game was over, but the Seawolves would cruise the rest of the way for the 72-65 win. Stony Brook shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting seven shots from deep to score 21 of its 48 points.
