OPENING KICK
  • This marks the sixth matchup in program history between these two teams, the first since the Tribe defeated the Seawolves 27-10 on Oct. 1, 2022, at LaValle Stadium. 
  • In their last time out, Tyler Knoop threw for a career-high 387 yards and broke the program record with six passing touchdowns as Stony Brook dominated Towson, 52-24, on the road Saturday afternoon.
  • On Monday, Knoop was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office. 
  • The Stony Brook football team earned a spot in the AFCA Coaches Top-25 Poll at No. 24 for the first time since 2019. 
  • The 5-2 start for the Seawolves mark their best start since the team began the 2018 season 5-2.
  • The Seawolves currently rank fourth in the CAA with their 2-1 record in conference and the Tribe sit in the sixth spot in the CAA standings. 
  • The current FCS biggest improvement in wins from the 2023 to 2024 season are the Seawolves (0-10 to 5-2), followed by McNeese St. (0-10 to 4-4). 
  • Stony Brook is 11-4 in its last 15 homecoming games dating back to 2015. 
  • Head coach Billy Cosh is currently the second youngest FBS or FCS head coach in the country. 
LAST TIME OUT
  • Tyler Knoop threw for a career-high 387 yards and broke the program record with six passing touchdowns, while Roland Dempster put up 103 yards on the ground as Stony Brook dominated Towson, 52-24, on the road Saturday afternoon.
  • Jasiah Williams pulled in nine catches for 92 yards and three scores. Jayce Freeman made his presence felt in the passing game, recording five receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Rushawn Lawrence paced the Stony Brook defensive effort, collecting three tackles, 2.0 TFL, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. Kris Caine added four tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one recovered fumble and Chayce Chalmers had six tackles, 0.5 TFL, and one recovered fumble in the win.
  • Stony Brook dominated offensively, racking up 512 total yards, 125 on the ground and 387 through the air, while averaging 6.4 yards per play and out-gaining Towson. The Stony Brook offense was prolonging drives consistently, converting on 50 percent of third-down attempts. 
  • Dempster continues to produce as he tallied 103 yards on 15 carries and recorded 61 receiving yards on five receptions. He now has at least 100 yards rushing in five of his last six games and leads the CAA in rushing yards this season (803). 
  • This was the most points by Stony Brook since they scored 59 against Lehigh in 2017. It was also the most road points since they tallied 56 at Presbyterian in 2012.
  • Stony Brook put together two touchdown-scoring drives of 90 yards or more, the longest drive going 98 yards.
  • Stony Brook moved to 4-6 all-time against Towson.
STEPPED IN AND STEPPED UP 
  • In just his third start of the season, Knoop helped the Seawolves to victory by breaking the program record for touchdown passes in a single game.
  • He was 34-of-40 (85%) passing for a career-high 387 yards and a program-record six touchdowns. 
  • The offense piled up 512 yards and scored its most points since 2017. 
  • Knoop's six TD passes are tied for the most in FCS this season and the 387 yards are the 5th-most in SBU history. 
  • On Monday, Knoop was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office. 
  • The QB also earned Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention. 
  • Knoop became the second Seawolf this season to earn the CAA weekly award and honors from Stats Perform as redshirt senior running back Roland Dempster was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and earned Stats Peform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week honors.  
  • This season, Knoop is now 71-of-95 (74.7%) for 665 yards in the air with seven touchdowns and two interceptions for a QBR rating of 153.64. 
RANKED FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE '19
  • The Stony Brook football team earned a spot in the AFCA Coaches Top-25 Poll for the first time since 2019 as the organization announced the Seawolves at No. 24 on Monday afternoon. 
  • The Seawolves have received votes from the AFCA poll for the last eight weeks and have been recognized on the Stats Perform list for the last seven weeks. 
  • Stony Brook has also received votes in the CBS Sports FCS Top-25 poll for the past four consecutive weeks. 
  • Villanova (5-2) slid to #13 in the Stats poll and #14 in the AFCA, Richmond (5-2) climbed to #13 in the AFCA poll and #18 in the Stats poll, William & Mary (5-2) was ranked #16 in the Stats poll and #15 in the AFCA poll and Rhode Island (6-1) moved up to #15 in the Stats rankings and #16 in the AFCA. 
  • Monmouth (4-3) and New Hampshire (4-3) were among others receiving votes in both polls, while Maine (4-3) received votes in the Stats poll for the first time.
  • This will be the first ranked-matchup at LaValle Stadium since the No. 24 Seawolves hosted No. 2 James Madison Dukes on Oct. 5, 2019. 
  • Stony Brook is 11-37 all-time against nationally-ranked FCS opponents.
  • The Seawolves' most recent win over a ranked opponent came against No. 14 Delaware on Oct. 16, 2021 at LaValle Stadium.
  • Stony Brook knocked off No. 2 Richmond at LaValle Stadium in Week 3 of 2016, the program's highest-ever ranked-opponent victory.
  • The Seawolves have four FCS teams that are currently receiving votes or are ranked inside the top 25 on their 2024 schedule (No. 14 Villanova, No. 15 William & Mary, RV New Hampshire, RV Monmouth).
ABOUT THE TRIBE
  • Head coach Mike London enters his sixth season at the helm of the Tribe, owning a 34-23 overall record. Over his 16 seasons, London has been the head coach of Virginia, Richmond, Howard and William & Mary. He has an overall record of 96-84 (.533). 
  • W&M owns an overall record of 5-2 (2-1 CAA) this season. The Tribe have defeated VMI, Wofford, Furman, Hampton, and Campbell. They've been defeated by Coastal Carolina and Towson. 
  • The Tribe were selected to finish fourth in the 2024 CAA Preseason Poll.
  • William & Mary ranks third in the FCS in rushing offense (277.0), fourth in third down conversion percentage (52.9%), ninth in first down offense (173), and ninth in total offense (455.9). 
  • Individually, Jalen Jones leads the nation in pass breakups (14) and Bronson Yoder is 14th in the country for total rushing yards (738) and rushing yards per game (105.4). 
  • Darius Wilson leads the way under center for the Tribe with 1,252 passing yards (89-of-150) with 403 rushing yards. He has thrown eight touchdowns and rushed for five more this season.
