On Saturday, October 26, Stony Brook University proudly inducted five exceptional Seawolves into the
Rita & Kurt Eppenstein Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at the Stony Brook Arena, where the Class of 2024 was honored for their outstanding contributions to Stony Brook Athletics.
This year's inductees included:
- Pat Cantwell '12 (Baseball)
A key player in the Seawolves' magical run to the College World Series in 2012, Pat was celebrated for his impressive collegiate career, which included a .314 batting average and over 200 runs scored. A two-time Hall of Famer, he was previously honored as part of the entire 2012 baseball team. Currently serving as a bullpen catcher for the Texas Rangers, Pat continues to make Stony Brook proud.
- John Espey (Men's Lacrosse Head Coach & Administrator)
Coach Espey, who led the men's lacrosse program from 1988 to 2004, was recognized for his significant role in ushering the Seawolves into Division I. With 116 career wins, he guided the team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2002. His leadership helped develop the program into a competitive force, and he continues to serve the Athletics Department as the Assistant Director of Facilities.
- Bria Green '15 (Softball)
Bria made history as the program's first America East Player of the Year in 2015, thanks to her record-breaking performance that included 19 home runs in a single season. Her contributions were pivotal in leading the Seawolves to the 2013 America East Championship. Bria's accomplishments continue to resonate in the program, where she holds several all-time records.
- Corinne Leake '04 (Women's Track & Field)
A trailblazer for the women's track and field program, Corinne was a two-time America East Champion in the 500m and set a conference record in 2002. Her influence laid the groundwork for future successes, and she held the 500m record at Stony Brook for 18 years. Corinne's professional journey now sees her contributing to Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
- Dorrien Van Dyke '17 (Women's Lacrosse)
Dorrien, one of the most decorated players in Stony Brook history, led the Seawolves to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. Over her career, she tallied an impressive 268 points and was recognized as an IWLCA All-American in 2017. Following her playing days, she has transitioned to coaching and is currently an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins.
The Stony Brook Athletics Hall of Fame, established in 1991, was dedicated to Rita and Kurt Eppenstein in 2007 to honor their legacy. Their son, Ted Eppenstein '68, was among the first inductees in 1994. This year's induction ceremony was a heartfelt celebration of the remarkable achievements and enduring legacies of these outstanding individuals.
