Kunz Registers a Double-Double in Four Set Loss to Towson

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook volleyball team lost in a four-set thriller on Sunday afternoon to the Towson Tigers at home in Pritchard Gymnasium on senior day. The loss dropped Stony Brook's record to 14-12 overall and 7-9 in CAA play with only a pair of matches left in the regular season.
 


 
The Seawolves were led by a double-double from Leoni Kunz, who registered 15 kills and 13 digs on the day. Quinn Anderson also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Julia Patsos chipped in for with 15 digs to go with five blocks from Abby Campbell.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
SET 1 | The Seawolves lost the first set, 25-19, in spite of a strong performance on the attacking side registering a .345 attack percentage with 12 kills as Kunz and Anderson combined for nine kills.
 
SET 2 | A 25-23 set-two loss put Stony Brook behind after another stellar set on the attack. The Seawolves put together a team-high .371 attack percentage with 13 kills in a group effort from Kunz, Kali Moore, Anderson, Campbell, and Ayanna Pierre Louis.
 
SET 3 | Stony Brook got on the board after a 25-23 win in the third set. The Seawolves took a late lead in a set that only had one lead change before Stony Brook took over and carried themselves to victory.  The front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Towson attacks and capitalized on 10 attacking errors. The offense tallied another 13 kills in the set win.
 
SET 4 | Stony Brook couldn't keep the momentum going and lost in the fourth set, 25-12, to drop the match. The Seawolves dropped the first point and were unable to claw back into the lead before losing the set. Towson hit a match-high .409 through the final set with 10 kills and only one kill.
 
 
STATS AND NOTES
  • Stony Brook had four players in double figures in digs (Patsos, Cigna, Kunz, and Henry).
  • Leoni Kunz registered her 32nd career double-double with a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs. She added one ace and one block in the loss.
  • Stony Brook got a team-high 15 digs from Julia Patsos.
  • Torri Henry dished out a match-high 42 assists to help the Stony Brook attackers.
  • Kali Moore had a team-high three aces for the Seawolves.

 
NEXT UP
 
The Seawolves return to the court next weekend when they head to North Carolina to battle Campbell on Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. for their regular season-finale weekend.
