BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Kali Moore and Leoni Kunz each secured double-doubles to lead the Stony Brook volleyball team to a 3-1 win (25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20) over the Campbell Lady Camels at Gilbert Craig Gore Arena. The victory improved the Seawolves' record to 15-12 overall and 8-9 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play.
The Seawolves were bolstered by Kunz, who recorded 12 kills and 13 digs, and Moore, who tallied 24 kills and 10 digs. Abby Campbell added seven kills, contributing to the offensive effort. On defense, Torri Henry registered 17 digs, and Ayanna Pierre Louis recorded seven blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Seawolves took control early, claiming a 25-21 win. Kunz and Moore spearheaded the attack with seven and six kills, respectively. Henry provided 11 assists, while Patsos notched seven digs. With the score tied at 20-20, Stony Brook executed a 5-1 run, capped by three consecutive kills from Kunz, a kill from Moore, and a service ace by Pierre Louis.
SET 2 | Campbell leveled the match with a 27-25 victory in a competitive second set featuring 15 ties and seven lead changes. Moore paced the Seawolves with seven kills, and Henry and Patsos combined for 10 digs. Stony Brook overcame a 20-16 deficit to lead 21-20, thanks to a Kunz kill and a Pierre Louis block. However, Campbell closed the set by scoring three of the final four points.
SET 3 | Stony Brook responded with a dominant 25-18 win in the third set. Henry tallied 14 assists, and Kunz added seven digs. The Seawolves capitalized on nine Campbell errors and an 8-2 run after a 14-14 tie. Campbell, Kunz, and Henry sealed the set with two kills and a block. The Seawolves boasted a .353 hitting percentage, with 14 kills and four blocks.
SET 4 | Moore shone in the final frame, delivering six of Stony Brook's 11 kills to secure a 25-20 victory. After trailing 16-13, the Seawolves mounted an 8-1 run to lead 21-17. Key contributors during the run included Campbell, Kunz, and Moore, who combined for four kills, while Pierre Louis added a service ace. Stony Brook also recorded five service aces in the decisive set.
STATS AND NOTES
- Kali Moore and Leoni Kunz each registered double-doubles in the win. This was the 13th double-double of the season for Moore and 18th for Kunz.
- Moore is now third in the CAA and ranked inside the top-15 for kills in Division I (449) and top-five in total attacks (1,294) for Division I.
- Stony Brook had four players in double figures in digs (Patsos, Henry, Kunz, and Moore).
- The Seawolves had 68 digs compared to 66 by Campbell. Stony Brook currently leads the CAA in digs with 1,876 this season.
- Madison Cigna had a team-high two aces in the win. The Seawolves served up five aces on the way to a fourth-set victory.
- Stony Brook attackers were helped by a match-high 45 assists from Torri Henry. Henry currently leads the CAA and ranks top-five in Division I for assists (1,119) this season.
- The Seawolves had 50 assists in the victory. The team is now 9-3 this season when they reach 50 or more assists in a match.
- The Stony Brook hitting percentage this evening was .252 compared to .114 by Campbell.
- Stony Brook now has 15 wins this season, the first time they've had 15 wins in back-to-back seasons since the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
- This was the first-ever meeting between these two programs.
