UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Stony Brook women's soccer fell to No. 22 Penn State, 8-1, in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Tournament on Saturday evening at Jeffrey Field.
Luciana Setteducate tallied Stony Brook's lone goal of the postseason contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn State opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play, sneaking one past Nicolette Pasquarella, who saved the first shot she faced in net. Kristina Garcia and Sammy Hannwacker put forth shots that were handled by Penn State's keeper before the Nittany Lions struck again in the 17th minute.
Pasquarella made two more saves in the opening half, but Penn State's attack added two more tallies to send the Seawolves into the intermission trailing 4-0. After the Nittany Lions added a fifth goal, Stony Brook got on the board when Setteducate headed home a cross from Garcia in the 58th minute.
Penn State scored three more times, including two in the final three minutes of action to close out the victory over Stony Brook in the Seawolves' return to the NCAA Tournament.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Credit goes to Penn State, what a team with a great coaching staff. They prepared their team very well. We thought we prepared ourselves very well, but obviously today the result was not what we were looking for," head coach Tobias Bischof said.
