MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - Stony Brook University men's basketball fell to No. 18 Marquette, 102-62, on Monday evening at Fiserv Forum. Joe Octave and Ben Wight finished in double-figures for the Seawolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Octave had the hot hand early, connecting on his first three shots from beyond the arc to help Stony Brook take an 11-10 lead into the first media timeout.
- A basket from Nick Woodard, his first as a Seawolf, padded the early lead to three points before Marquette's Kam Jones scored back-to-back baskets to put the Golden Eagles back in front.
- Wight and CJ Luster got on the board as the lead changed hands a couple more times as the game neared the halfway point of the first half.
- Marquette ripped off nine straight points and 13 of the next 16 to build a nine-point lead.Â
- The Golden Eagles' advantage climbed to 18 points at the end of the first half, scoring 14 of the final 20 points of the period.
- The lead grew as large as 22 in the early going in the second half, but buckets from Collin O'Connor and Luster slowed Marquette for the moment.
- Marquette held a steady 20-plus point advantage for the majority of the second half, eventually building on that to close out the season-opening victory.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Give Marquette credit, that is a veteran team with Final Four aspirations who played well. We had some good moments but we really struggled to contain penetration," head coach Geno Ford said. "We need to get better and tougher. Hopefully tonight's game will help us moving forward."
