STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook women's basketball team kept Elon to just 10 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-20 shooting performance on the way to a 61-32 victory over the Phoenix at home Sunday.
The Seawolves (21-3, 11-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Sherese Pittman, who put together a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Khari Clark tacked on 13 points and six rebounds and Victoria Keenan added eight points and two steals.
Stony Brook out-rebounded Elon 47-44 in Sunday's game, led by Pittman's 12 boards. The Seawolves also grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and scored four second chance points. The squad forced 17 Elon turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Sunday's game. The Seawolves turned those takeaways into 16 points on the other end of the floor. Keenan's two steals led the way for Stony Brook.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook started off strong, putting together an 11-10 lead heading into the second quarter. The Seawolves capitalized on five Elon turnovers in the period, turning them into three points on the other end of the floor.
Elon rallied to take a 15-12 lead before Stony Brook went on a 7-0 run starting at the 5:52 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Clark, to take a 19-15 lead. The Seawolves proceeded to tack on one point to that lead and enjoyed a 24-19 advantage heading into halftime. Stony Brook was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 13 points, led by Keenan and a deep shot by Zaida Gonzalez with just .02 seconds left.
Following intermission, Stony Brook continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 30-23 before going on a 12-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Shamarla King, to expand its lead further to 42-23 with 49 seconds to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Seawolves added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 44-24 edge. Stony Brook played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 20 points in the paint.
Stony Brook kept widening that lead, expanding it to 48-26 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Clark's layup, to grow the lead to 56-26 with 6:08 to go in the contest. The Phoenix narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Seawolves still cruised the rest of the way for the 61-32 win. Stony Brook took advantage of four Elon turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.

- Sherese Pittman notched a double-double for the Seawolves with 17 points and 12 rebounds. This was her first double-double of the season and sixth of her career with the Seawolves.
