RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook freshman left-handed pitcher Nicholas Rizzo has been named the CAA Co-Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Rizzo becomes the first player in program history to earn the CAA Rookie of the Week honor and the first student athlete to earn a weekly rookie honor since Adam Kuzmicki earned America East's Rookie of the Week honors on March 1, 2022.

In his second career start for the Seawolves, Rizzo tossed eight innings to lead the Seawolves victorious over Northwestern State at Alex Box Stadium on Saturday night, 5-1. In his eight innings of work and 92 pitches tossed, the left-hander struck out four, allowed one walk, and eight hits to secure his career victory.

This season, the rookie currently ranks third in the CAA and second on the team for innings pitched (13.2) and second on the squad in strikeouts, appearances and wins through the first eight games of the year.

The Seawolves return to the diamond on March 1, to take on Virginia Tech at 4:00 p.m., in Blacksburg, Virginia. Stony Brook is set to face the Hokies a three-game set with the second game of the series starting at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. This will be the first meeting all-time between these two programs
