WASHINGTON, D.C. --The Stony Brook women's basketball team received a 27-point performance from the bench on the way to a 61-52 victory against the Campbell Camels at the Entertainment & Sports Arena on Friday. With the victory, the Seawolves advance to the CAA semifinals for the first time in program history.
Freshman Janay Brantley led the Seawolves with nine points, six rebounds and two steals. Graduate guard Gigi Gonzalez also added 13 points and two steals and junior Sherese Pittman tallied eight points and eight rebounds.
Stony Brook out-rebounded Campbell 40-35 in Friday's game, led by Pittman's eight boards. The Seawolves also pulled down 12 offensive rebounds and scored five second chance points. The Stony Brook defense held Campbell shooters to just 33.9 percent from the field, including 24.1 percent from three-point range.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to an 11-8 advantage, Stony Brook went on a 9-0 run with 3:01 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Gonzalez, to increase its lead to 20-8. The Camels fought back, but the Seawolves still entered the quarter break with a 20-10 advantage. Stony Brook did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 20 points close to the basket.
The Seawolves kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 9-0 run starting at the 8:28 mark of the second with the layup from G. Gonzlaez in the to increase its lead to 29-15. The Seawolves proceeded to tack on two points to that lead after a layup by Pittman with 25 seconds left and enjoyed a 36-20 advantage heading into halftime. Stony Brook again dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 16 points close to the basket.
The squad continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a half court buzzer beater three from Brantley, to expand its lead further to 46-29 as time expired in the third. Brantley guided the Seawolves in the quarter with five points and sophomore Delaney Yarborough totaled three points off the bench. Both players collected two offensive rebounds in the frame.
Stony Brook led by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter with 6:50 remaining, but the Camels fought back to cut the deficit to eight points with 1:53 left in the game. However, Keenan continued to knock it down from deep and made her second three-pointer of the quarter with 1:43 left in the game to go back up by double-figures and ultimately securing the 61-52 victory.

- Gigi Gonzalez led the Seawolves with 13 points. In 27 of 29 games this season, the graduate has tallied dobule-figures. She also recorded three rebounds, two steals, and two assists.
- Stony Brook received a team-high eight rebounds from Sherese Pittman. The forward has at-least eight rebounds in the last six games. Brantley and Keenan each tallied nine points off the bench.
- Stony Brook knocked down six of 15 long range attempts (40%).
- The Seawolves held the Camels to only 33.9 percent shooting from the field.
