STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Kyra McFarland collected four hits to help power the Stony Brook Seawolves over the Towson Tigers 11-3 on Friday.
Mia Haynes started in the circle and picked up the win for Stony Brook. The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits, allowing four walks and striking out six.
In addition to her four hits, McFarland had a double to lead the Seawolves. Naiah Ackerman put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and a run batted in. Brooke Dye also helped out for Stony Brook, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both pitchers stranded runners in each of the first two innings, including a runner in scoring position in the second.
- Stony Brook loaded the bases with one out in the third inning, but an infield fly and a strikeout guided Towson out of the inning without any damage.
- Towson plated a pair of runs to open the scoring in the fourth inning, both of which were unearned after two misplayed balls in the outfield.
- Stony Brook's offense put up 10 runs in response in the home half of the fourth inning. Ackerman opened the scoring for the Seawolves with a lead-off homer down the line in left. An Alicia Orosco single tied the game before bases-loaded walks drawn by Alyssa Costello and Catherine Anne Kupinski padded Stony Brook's lead to 4-2.
- With the bases loaded and two outs, Stony Brook added two more runs after a fielding error by Towson's pitcher. The Seawolves made the Tigers pay, stringing together back-to-back-to-back hits to take a 10-2 lead.
- Towson loaded the bases and scored once in the fifth, avoiding the run rule for a half inning longer.
- McFarland led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and eventually came around to score on a Kupinski sacrifice fly to enact the run rule.
