RICHMOND, Va. - After leading the Seawolves to an historic 2-0 week on the court, Stony Brook women's basketball junior forward
Sherese Pittman has been honored as the CAA Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
This is the first CAA weekly honor for Pittman in her career and she becomes the third student-athlete on the squad to take home the CAA Player of the Week honors this season. Graduate student Khari Clark has captured the award four times this season, which leads the CAA, and graduate student Gigi Gonzalez took the honors back on Jan. 15.
An All-CAA Second Team honoree last season, Pittman finished her week averaging 26.0 points per game on 56.3 percent (18-32) shooting with 8.5 rebounds per game. She also tallied 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks, and 1.5 steals in the Seawolves 2-0 slate.
To begin the week, Pittman led the Seawolves back from a 19-point deficit at 40-21 with 5:36 left in the third quarter to knock off Drexel 60-58 by tallying 20 of her 22 points in the second half. The 22 points marked a new-season high for Pittman as she went 8-for-12 in the second half. Pittman also added eight rebounds, four blocks and three steals in the victory.
In the win over North Carolina A&T on Sunday to secure at least a share of the CAA regular season championship, Pittman exploded for a career-best 30 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. Also, the forward grabbed nine rebounds and dished out four assists in the battle of the top teams in the CAA standings.
Pittman is averaging 13.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game this season, which are all top-three on the team.
The Seawolves will return to the court next week when they head to Virginia to take on Hampton at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7. The game can be streamed live on FloHoops.
