Trio of Scorers Lead Seawolves to CAA Second Round Win over Northeastern

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team defeated No. 10 Northeastern, 75-65, on Saturday evening in the second round of the CAA Tournament at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.

Dean Noll matched a career-high with 23 points, adding seven rebounds and three assists. Aaron Clarke scored 19 points and Tyler Stephenson-Moore chipped in with 21 of his own. The trio of Seawolves scorers combined to score 63 of Stony Brook's 75 points in the victory, marking the second straight season that the Seawolves have earned a win in the CAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stony Brook led from the opening tip, controlling the pace for much of the first half. A 6-0 run helped the Seawolves jump out to a 17-11 lead before a Northeastern three pointer made it a one-possession game at the under-12 media timeout.
  • The Huskies whittled the deficit down to one point on a couple occasions down the stretch before briefly taking a 27-25 lead, their first of the evening, with less than three minutes to play in the opening half.
  • Clarke connected on a triple through contact, heading to the line and completing a four-point play to put Stony Brook back in front, 29-27, just 33 seconds after relinquishing the lead.
  • The Seawolves scored the final six points of the stanza over the course of 84 seconds to carry a six-point advantage into the break.
  • Stony Brook pushed the lead to eight points, maintaining that advantage into the under-12 media timeout of the second half. The lead expanded to double digits at 7:13 after a pair of Chris Maidoh free throws.
  • Back-to-back buckets from Clarke gave the Seawolves their largest lead of the evening, 59-45 as the contest entered the final five minutes.
  • All in all, the Seawolves' big three of Clarke, Noll and Stephenson-Moore accounted for Stony Brook's final 21 points in the game, closing out a CAA Tournament Second Round victory for their squad.
