STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team was recognized for their excellence in the classroom as graduate guard
Gigi Gonzalez and senior guard
Kelis Corley were selected by the College Sports Communications to the 2023-24 Academic All-District Team.
In addition, Gonzalez was selected as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members in April.
The regular season scoring champion in the CAA, Gonzalez made her presence felt in her final season by earning CAA Player of the Year and First Team All-CAA honors. She led the team and conference with 15.9 points per game and ranked second in the CAA with a team-leading 4.8 assists per game. The guard also averaged 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
Starting every game this season, Gonzalez led the team with 30.9 minutes per game and shot 40.7% from the field during the regular season, which was fourth in the CAA. Gonzalez tallied double-figure points in 30 of 33 games this season and finished her graduate season with career-best marks in points, rebounds and assists per game. She is currently pursuing her MBA in the graduate program at Stony Brook.
Corley, who also started every game for the Seawolves this season, finished her year averaging 2.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.5 steals per game over her 22.0 minutes per game on the court. The guard ended her season with a new career-high in rebounds and assists per game. Corley is also part of the MBA graduate program at Stony Brook.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced April 16, 2024.
