WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Mia Haynes was dealing on Sunday, throwing a one-hit shutout to lead the Seawolves past Monmouth, 2-0, completing a three-game sweep of the Hawks.
Haynes went the distance for Stony Brook, giving up just one hit, walking three and striking out seven.
Offensively, the Seawolves were paced by Kyra McFarland, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI. Julianna Sanzone put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Seawolves took the lead in the first, scoring the game's first run just two batters in. Alicia Orosco led off with a double and scored on a McFarland single.
- Sanzone doubled home McFarland later in the frame to add a second run.
- Haynes worked around a baserunner in each of the first two frames, allowing a hit in the second. It would stand as Monmouth's lone hit of the afternoon.
- The Hawks put a runner in scoring position with one out in the fifth, but Haynes set down the next two hitters to preserve the shutout.
- Haynes retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings, closing the door on her eighth win of the season.
