Gilstrap and Franks Advance to Quarterfinals on Day One of NCAA East First Rounds

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Stony Brook University men's track and field wrapped up its first day of competition at the NCAA East First Round on Wednesday. Collin Gilstrap and George Franks both advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday in their respective events.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Franks raced to a 46.11 finish in the 400-meter dash, good for 12th place and a qualifying time for the quarterfinals on Friday.
  • Gilstrap posted a 3:45.41 clocking in the 1,500 meter, advancing to the quarterfinals on Friday.
  • Evan Brennan finished 32nd in the 10,000 meter with a time of 30:16.41.

"Good first night; our two freshmen, Collin and George, handled the pressure of being on the big stage and now both have the opportunity to compete in the national quarterfinals on Friday night," head coach Andy Ronan said. "Proud of Evan's effort in the 10K; he came in ranked 48th and finished 32nd overall. The three-time NCAA semifinalist has contributed so much to our program during his time at Stony Brook."

NEXT UP
Gilstrap, Franks and Carlos Santos Jr. hit the track on Friday evening in quarterfinal events. Gilstrap starts the evening in the 1,500 meter at 5:15 p.m., followed by Santos Jr. in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. and Franks rounds out the night with the 400 meter at 6:50 p.m.
