Women’s Soccer’s Emanuelly Ferreira Participates in U.S. Women's Futsal National Team Identification Camp in California

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Stony Brook women's soccer junior Emanuelly Ferreira recently took part in the U.S. Women's Futsal National Team third and final invitation-only Identification Training Camp at the COPA Soccer Training Center in Walnut Creek, Calif.

"It's always an honor getting called up to the US Futsal National Team," said Ferreira. "We have the first-ever Women's FIFA Futsal World Cup coming up in 2025, as well as CONCAAF Qualifiers soon, so I'm very excited for that and what the future holds for US Futsal."

After the Stony Brook sophomore was invited to be a part of the inaugural U.S. National Team last season, Ferreira became one of 13 players that head coach Macia Tafarel invited, along with 10 Invitation ID players to take part in the final phase of the talent identification process before the first full Women's Futsal National Team training camp this July in Atlanta.

The game "Futsal" is an indoor version of soccer that is played on a "basketball" sized field that is 40 by 20 meters. Compared to the 11 players on a soccer field, Futsal fields teams of five players (one of which is a goalkeeper). In the confined space, this version of soccer uses a smaller, heavier, and designed to bounce less than a normal soccer ball where they must pass, receive, dribble and move, while under pressure.

"Just over a year after beginning the talent identification process for the U.S. Women's Futsal National Team, I'm thrilled to finish right where we started last March at COPA Soccer Training Center," said Tafarel. "This camp will be an important final step in establishing the group of players that will form the first U.S. Women's Futsal National Team later this year."

In her first season with the Seawolves, the Boston native appeared in 11 games and registered over 160 minutes on the pitch. In her 11 games, the squad went 5–5-1 and the incoming junior also tallied two shots in her rookie season.

"Manu is a talented player," said head coach Tobias Bischof. "I'm happy for her being invited to her second US Futsal Women's National Team training camp. We wish her maximum success."
