STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook University football head coach Billy Cosh announced the signing of a new team member, 13-year-old Milo Nicholson, to the program this afternoon. Nicholson joins the Seawolves through a partnership with Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

"We are thrilled to have Milo join our Stony Brook Football family," Cosh said. "His energy and enthusiasm is what we need in our program and our team responds to him. This Team IMPACT program is a great foundation and organization and I'm glad we are a part of it."

Milo, who lives with spina bifida, was officially introduced at this morning's team meeting and signed his letter of intent on Thursday, July 18 inside Goldstein Family Student-Athlete Development Center. Milo's family, along with all of his new teammates and members of the Stony Brook football staff and athletic department were in attendance. Now an official member of the Stony Brook family, Milo will be a presence at games, practices, and various team functions.

"Coaches always look for an athlete that can make an immediate impact when they step on campus and that's what Milo did," Stony Brook football player and Team IMPACT representative Anthony Pecorella said. "He has taught each of us to never let anything stand in the way of your dreams."

Team IMPACT's unique multi-year program signs children facing serious illness and disability onto college athletic teams across the country. Based on a clinical model, Team IMPACT guides a symbiotic relationship between teams and children focused on socialization, empowerment, and resilience, ensuring everyone involved has the personalized game plan they need to win – effectively building confidence and independence.

Founded in 2011, Team IMPACT has matched over 3,000 children with 700+ colleges and universities in all 50 states, impacting more than 75,000 student-athletes. If you know a child or team who may be interested, please visit www.teamimpact.org.
