STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The awards keep coming for two-way player Erik Paulsen as the Long Island native has been named to the Freshman All-America First Team by Baseball America this afternoon.

The Freshman All-America honors stand as Paulsen's fourth recognition from his 2024 performance on both sides of the diamond. He was also selected as a freshmen first teamer by D1 Baseball earlier this week, while also being named to the NCBWA and Perfect Game All-America Freshman Second Teams last month.

In addition to his All-America honors, the three-time CAA Player of the Week was also named the program's first-ever CAA Rookie of the Year, along with being named CAA Honorable Mention and securing a spot on the CAA All-Rookie team. He also became the first player in program history to be recognized as one of 10 semifinalists for the historic John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award by the College Baseball Foundation, which honors the best two-way player in Division I.

As the primary closer and reliever for the Seawolves, Paulsen finished tied for sixth in the CAA with six saves, which was also tied for fifth most in program history and ranked second among all freshmen in the country. Overall, he owned a 2-1 record over 15 appearances. He also tallied 24 strikeouts and pitched to a 3.21 earned run average over 42.0 innings of work, second on the team, fourth in the CAA, and the top mark among all freshmen in the conference.

At the plate, Paulsen slashed .299/.392/.458 in 2024. He ranked top-three on the team and led all freshmen in numerous offensive categories, including batting average, on-base percentage, hits (53), home runs (4), runs batted in (24), doubles (16) and total bases (81). He also finished tied for second on the team with 14 multi-hit games and tied for third with five multi-RBI games.

Paulsen was the 16th player in program history to be named a Freshman All-American and the first in program history to be named a Freshman All-American by four different publications.
