OPENING KICK
- The Seawolves enter the game following their bye week with a 3-3 (1-1 CAA) record this season.
- In their last outing, the Seawolves dominated the Great Danes to secure their second straight Golden Apple victory with a 47-12 win over UAlbany on Oct. 4.
- Stony Brook owns a 4-8 all-time record against Monmouth, falling to the Hawks in their last three meetings since joining the CAA.
- Monmouth is currently ranked No. 10/11 in the FCS by Stats Perform and the AFCA Coaches Poll with a 5-1 (2-0 CAA) record. This marks the first time Stony Brook will face a ranked team since battling No. 9 Rhode Island on Sept. 6.
- Stony Brook is 12-38 all-time against ranked opponents.
- On offense, RB Roland Dempster ranks in the top three in the CAA in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, and rushing touchdowns. He also ranks 13th in the FCS and second in the CAA in all-purpose yards per game.
- The Stony Brook defense is led by Anthony Ferrelli, who has a team-best 53 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, and one interception. Dyshier Clary and Franco Milano have combined for 6.5 sacks this season, while Miles McGoy ranks 11th nationally and leads the CAA in passes defended in 2025.
- Monmouth enters the game as the highest ranked team in the CAA and also has the No. 1 ranked offense in the FCS, leading the nation in first downs, passing offense, and ranking fifth in scoring offense.
THE GOLDEN VICTORY
- The Stony Brook football team captured its second consecutive Golden Apple victory with a dominant 47-12 win over the Great Danes on Saturday afternoon in Albany. The win marked Stony Brook's largest margin of victory and highest point total in Golden Apple history.
- QB Chris Zellous led the way for the Seawolves offensively. The graduate student finished the day with 272 total yards, tying his season-high with four total touchdowns. He went 20-of-30 for 241 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown, and added 31 yards on 10 carries with a season-high three rushing touchdowns.
- Roland Dempster was all over the stat sheet. The running back posted his third 100-yard rushing game of the season, finishing with 105 yards on 20 carries and his sixth touchdown of the year. He also added a season-best 61 receiving yards on a season-high five receptions, wrapping up the day with 166 total yards.
- Dez Williams was a threat all afternoon out wide, leading the team with 87 yards on a team-best six receptions and a touchdown. Jayce Freeman contributed 40 yards on three catches, while Justin Reshard recorded a season-high 21 yards on two catches. Marqeese Dietz, in his first game back at UAlbany since transferring to Stony Brook, hauled in four catches for 27 yards.
- Dyshier Clary led the defense, tying for the team-high with five tackles, including three tackles for loss, one sack, a fumble recovery, and a quarterback hurry. Bryson Parker snagged an interception, while AJ Roberts and Franco Milano each recorded a sack. Aidan Kaler and Anthony Ferrelli also tied for the team-high with five tackles.
- Stony Brook totaled 473 yards on 80 plays, compared to UAlbany's 198 yards on 52 plays. The Seawolves posted 250 passing yards and 223 rushing yards, while UAlbany managed just 50 rushing and 148 passing yards.
- This marked the largest-ever win over UAlbany, surpassing the previous margin from the 2021 season (22 points). The 47 points were also the most Stony Brook has ever scored against UAlbany, eclipsing their 40-point mark from their first meeting on Nov. 23, 1995.
- Stony Brook improves to 12-15 all-time against UAlbany and has now won the last two matchups. This was the 27th meeting in 30 seasons and the 12th straight year since both joined the CAA.
KEEP ON ROLLING, ROLAND!
- The Seawolves' leading back for the last two seasons continues to shine in 2025.
- This season, Dempster has rushed for 617 yards on 118 carries with six rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 16 passes for 142 yards.
- The RB has rushed for over 100 yards in three of six games this season. He has accumulated over 100 all-purpose yards in five of six games, dating back to the opener against FBS opponent SDSU.
- Dempster is averaging 126.5 all-purpose yards per game, which ranks 13th in the FCS and second in the CAA.
- The graduate student ranks top four in the CAA in rushing yards, rushing yards per game, rushing touchdowns, and rushing yards per carry.
- For the record books, Dempster ranks fifth all-time in career rushing yards, rushing attempts, and total touchdowns.
HISTORY AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
- This will be the second ranked opponent the Seawolves face this season after hosting No. 8/9 Rhode Island on Sept. 6.
- Stony Brook is 12-38 all-time against nationally-ranked FCS opponents.
- The Seawolves' most recent win over a ranked opponent came against No. 15 William & Mary at LaValle Stadium last season on Oct. 26, 2024.
- Stony Brook knocked off No. 2 Richmond at LaValle Stadium in Week 3 of 2016, marking the program's highest-ever ranked-opponent victory.
- The last ranked road win for Stony Brook came in Philadelphia, where the Seawolves defeated No. 5 Villanova on Oct. 26, 2019.
- The Seawolves have three FCS teams that are currently receiving votes or are ranked inside the top 25 on their 2024 schedule (Monmouth, Rhode Island, and Villanova).
ABOUT THE HAWKS
- Monmouth is led by 33rd-year head coach Kevin Callahan, who holds a career record of 193-149 and is the longest-tenured coach in the FCS.
- The Hawks enter the game as the No. 10/11 ranked team in the FCS with a 5-1 (2-0 CAA) record.
- In their last outing, Monmouth defeated Towson after Derek Robertson threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns, while the rushing attack, powered by Rodney Nelson and Elijah Jennings, led the Hawks past Towson 42–31 on Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
- Monmouth has defeated all five of their FCS opponents this season, with their only loss coming against FBS opponent Charlotte.
- The Hawks are 14-8 all-time in games played as a ranked team.
- QB Derek Robertson leads the No. 1 offense in the FCS, pacing the country in passing touchdowns, passing yards, passing yards per game, total offense, and points responsible for per game.
- WR Josh Derry is tied for the FCS lead with eight receiving touchdowns this season. He also ranks third in the FCS in receiving yards and receiving yards per game, and fourth in receptions per game.
- RB Rodney Nelson ranks third in the FCS in all-purpose yards per game, while leading the nation in rushing yards per game. He also ranks 12th in rushing touchdowns.
- Leading the defense is Josiah Graham, who ranks fourth in the FCS and leads the CAA in sacks. Lamont Lester Jr. is also a force on the line, ranking second in the CAA and 14th in the FCS in sacks. Jaden Jones leads the Hawks in tackling, ranking fourth in the CAA and 19th in the FCS.
