OPENING KICK

• This marks the second matchup in program history between these two teams, with Lindenwood defeating Stony Brook, 30-27, last season in Missouri.
• In their last time out, the Seawolves fought back from a 31-13 deficit in the third quarter and tied the game at 34-34 with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before falling 41-34 to Delaware State at Alumni Stadium.
• Quinn Boyd led the way with 323 passing yards and four total touchdowns. Khalid Bueno recorded a strip sack, while Joseph Garcia led the defense with eight tackles. CJ Hester rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown, while DJ Linkins, Seth Sweitzer and Keiden Gutierrez each recorded their first touchdowns as Seawolves.
• Lindenwood is coming off a 20-17 victory over Charleston Southern on Thursday night at Steward Field at Hunter Stadium. Pops Battle led the way with 142 passing yards and a touchdown, while King Smith recorded two sacks and Isaac Edwards had four tackles and a pick-six.
• Stony Brook owns a 6-6 record in its last 12 home openers, dating back to 2014.
• The Seawolves went 5-1 at LaValle Stadium last season, winning their final five home games.
• LB Anthony Ferrelli, QB Quinn Boyd, WR Seth Sweitzer, DL Abraham Clinkscales and DL Sebastian Regis have been named captains for the 2026 season. Ferrelli is the only two-time captain in the group.
• Stony Brook was picked to finish fifth in the 2026 CAA Preseason Coaches Poll. Four Seawolves, Joseph Garcia, Miles McGoy, Anthony Ferrelli and Sebastian Regis, earned spots on the CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team.
• Ferrelli was named to the 2026 Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List, which is presented annually to the top defensive player in FCS football. He was also named a Preseason All-American by Stats Perform and Phil Steele. 

LAST TIME OUT

• The Seawolves fell on the road to Delaware State, 41-34, last Thursday night.
• Stony Brook fought back from a 31-13 deficit in the third quarter and tied the game at 34-34 with 11 minutes remaining before Delaware State scored the game-winning touchdown with 1:54 left in the fourth quarter.
• Quinn Boyd threw for 323 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns.
• Joseph Garcia tied for the team lead with eight tackles, while Khalid Bueno recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, including a strip sack.
• The Lindenwood Lions earned a 20-17 victory over Charleston Southern in their season opener last Thursday night.
• In his first career start at quarterback, Pops Battle threw for 142 yards and a touchdown. He also totaled 202 yards of offense and added a rushing touchdown.
• Isaac Edwards and King Smith led the Lindenwood defense. Edwards recorded four tackles and a pick-six, while Smith had two sacks.
• Graham was 2-for-2 on field goals, connecting from 32 and 28 yards against Charleston Southern.

NEW SEAWOLVES SHINE AT DELAWARE STATE

• Several new Seawolves made an immediate impact in their season opener against Delaware State.
• Tennessee Tech transfer DJ Linkins and Merrimack transfer Seth Sweitzer combined for eight catches, 142 yards and two touchdowns.
• Michigan transfer CJ Hester led the Seawolves with 92 rushing yards on 18 carries and a touchdown. He also added two catches for 41 yards.
• After redshirting in 2025, tight end Keidan Gutierrez recorded a team-high eight catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
• St. Francis transfer Geno Calgaro tied for the team lead with eight tackles.
• Morgan State transfer Lance Byndon and freshman Justus Gaskin each recorded three tackles.
• Judson transfer Patrick Cleary handled punting duties, recording four punts for 160 yards, including two inside the 20.
• Jacob Krienbring made six kickoff attempts for 350 yards in his collegiate debut. He also went 4-for-5 on extra points.

DEFEND LAVALLE

• The Seawolves went 5-1 at home last season, winning five straight to close out the year. It was the program's first five-win home season since 2018, when Stony Brook went 5-0.
• Stony Brook averaged 426.3 yards per game at LaValle Stadium last season, compared to 299.4 yards per game for its opponents.
• The Seawolves outscored opponents 32.2-19.7 at home in 2025.
• Stony Brook outscored opponents 51-10 in the first quarter at LaValle last season.
• The Seawolves are 9-3 at LaValle Stadium during the Cosh era.
• This will be the first of five games at LaValle Stadium this season. The Seawolves will also host Rhode Island, UAlbany, Sacred Heart and Hampton.

ABOUT THE LIONS

• Head coach Jed Stugart enters his ninth season at the helm of the Lions. He guided Lindenwood from Division II to Division I in 2022.
• This will be the second-ever matchup between the two programs, with Lindenwood defeating Stony Brook, 30-27, last season in Missouri.
• The Lions opened the season with a 20-17 victory over Charleston Southern last Thursday night at Steward Field at Hunter Stadium.
• Pops Battle went 14-of-21 for 142 yards and a touchdown, while Isaac Edwards recorded four tackles and a pick-six. King Smith added two sacks.
• In 2025, the Lions led the OVC in rushing touchdowns during conference play with 20. Steve Hall and Jared Rhodes combined for 14 rushing touchdowns. Hall earned Second Team All-Conference honors, while Rhodes was an honorable mention selection.
• With a victory, the Lions would start the season 2-0 for just the second time since the program began in 2022.
• Lindenwood was picked to finish third in the OVC Preseason Poll behind UT Martin and SEMO. The Lions received 37 points and one first-place vote, marking the highest preseason ranking in program history.
