Stony Brook Comes Up Short at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Stony Brook volleyball team could not even up the series vs. Hofstra tonight as they fell to their rivals in three sets (18-25, 21-25, 23-25) Saturday on the road.

Quinn Anderson finished with six kills on the day to lead the Seawolves attack. Defensively, Zayda Fuertez had 12 digs while Madison Cigna had 10.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-18. After quickly falling behind 10-3, Stony Brook pulled within one after scoring nine of the next 12 thanks to six Hofstra errors and a pair of aces and a kill from Ava Zamora. That would be as close as the Seawolves would get, though, as the Pride regained the momentum down the stretch.

SET 2 | Stony Brook made it much closer in the second set, tying it up 21-21 before ultimately falling by four and digging a 2-0 hole in the match. Kills from Anderson, Kali Moore, and Lola Ojo gave the team an early 6-5 edge, before a 5-0 run midway through the set made it 16-13. The Seawolves remained on top for a few more points up to 20-19, but the Pride got hot late and scored six of the next seven to take the set.

SET 3 | Set three was the closest of the night as Stony Brook nearly clawed its way back to force a fourth set, only to fall just short at 25-23. The team had its best offensive performance of the night in the third as it racked up 10 kills in the set, led by Anderson with four. Despite this, however, the Seawolves were never able to tie it up after falliong behind on the initial point.

Game Notes
» Moore now has 999 career digs after picking up seven tonight.
» Zamora had a season-high three blocks today to go along with her team-leading three aces.
