PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Stony Brook notched its fifth shutout of the season today as they blanked Drexel 3-0 on the road in the penultimate match of the season on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves wasted no time scoring today as they quickly took a 1-0 lead in the third minute on a penalty kick goal from Jackson Gould. This was his second goal of the season. 20 minutes later, Finlay Oliver stole the ball just outside of the box and immediately sent it passed the diving goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Meanwhile, Heidar Hermannsson successfully stopped the only shot on goal he faced in the first half in the 28th minute.
In the second half, Stony Brook's defense continued to shutdown the Dragons, allowing just two more shots on goal that Hermannsson promptly saved. In the 84th minute, Oliver added one more goal to his total today as cut past a defender on the right side and buried one in the corner of the net to make it 3-0. With his two goals on the day, Oliver now has a team-high seven on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Hermannsson now has two shutouts and 29 saves on the season.
- This marks the second time this season Oliver has recorded two goals in one game, last doing so against Farmingdale State on September 22.
