Stony Brook Drops 100 on St. Joseph’s L.I. to Close Out Undefeated Homestand

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook men's basketball team officially went undefeated in its opening homestand after topping St. Joseph's L.I. with a massive 107-43 victory on Tuesday. The Seawolves tied a program record for three-pointers in a game tonight with 17. This ties the team's total also vs. the Golden Eagles back in 2022.

Also notable tonight was Rob Brown III, who officially reached 1000 career points with his 12th point of the game.

How It Happened

  • It was all Rob Brown III to open the game as he drained a pair of 3s inside the first two minutes to quickly make it 6-0. He would stay hot and make his next two three-point attempts, the latter of which being his 1000-point bucket at 16:25. Brown did not slow down after that, though, as Collin O'Connor picked up his first of four steals in the half and fed it to Brown who promptly took it in for a dunk, giving him 14 points in the first three and a half minutes of the game.
  • The rest of the Seawolves kept the scoring coming, as Tomas Valentiny came up with a dunk and a triple within a minute of each other, while Erik Pratt and O'Connor each recorded multiple buckets as well to get the lead to almost 20 points at 32-13 with under nine to play.
  • With one from behind the arc and two from the line, Pratt would join Brown with double-digit points in the half, as well as growing the lead to over 20 at 39-16 with 5:48 on the clock. With some help from Ethan Simmon who secured his first points as a Seawolf with a late layup, Stony Brook found itself with a massive 55-18 lead by the end of the half.
  • Brown III began the second half just like the first as he drained his sixth three-pointer of the day at 18:15 to reach 20 points on the night. A minute later O'Connor would connect with Richard Goods on an alley-oop, which was immediately followed yet another three from Brown to extend the lead to 63-22.
  • In his third collegiate game, rookie Jonah Butler finally came through with his first career points when he drained a three at 14:30. 30 seconds later he would add another from behind the arc, before making it 3-for-3 with another triple at 12:34. Simmon would follow 20 seconds later with his first three-pointer as a Seawolf to make it 81-27.
  • The newcomers continued to lay it on down the stretch as freshmen Liam Dagostino and Jake Harbatkin joined in for their first career points in their first career appearances. Later, with 3:15 remaining, Butler dunked one in to officially put Stony Brook over the century mark with 101 points.

Stats and Notes

  • Brown III and Pratt both reached double figures well before the end of the first half, ultimately ending the night with 23 and 16 points, respectively.
  • Butler finished the night with 21 points, all in the second half, while Simmon totaled 10. With fellow newcomers Dagostino, Harbatkin, and Andrew Okafor, along with veteran Leon Nahar, all seeing action tonight, every member of the 2025-26 roster has made an appearance this year.
  • Andrej Shoshkikj also scored 10 points tonight, giving Stony Brook five double-digit scorers.
  • Stony Brook's 107 points tonight mark the first time since that the team scored 100 in a game since scoring 103 vs. USMMA on November 14, 2015. The 64-point margin of victory is also the team's largest since that game (71-point margin).
  • O'Connor set a new career high tonight with four teals. As for Butler, his five steals are the most by a Seawolf since Joe Octave recorded five at UAlbany last December.
  • Stony Brook set new season highs tonight in FG% (54.9), 3-PT FG% (44.7), and FT% (85.7).
