Stony Brook Clinches CAA Tournament Berth with Win Over UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC - The Seawolves punched their ticket to a fourth consecutive CAA Tournament appearance on Friday as they bested UNCW 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-14) to lock in the No. 6 seed. With Northeastern losing earlier today and Stony Brook holding the tiebreakers over Elon and William & Mary, the Seawolves have now secured the sixth and final spot in the tournament.

The Seawolves offense was paced by Kali Moore, who finished with 14 kills on the day to top 1500 in her career. Quinn Anderson also had a strong day on offense with 13 kills. On defense, Madison Cigna led the way with 16 digs, while Ayanna Pierre Louis racked up six blocks.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves opened up an early 1-0 lead after winning the first set 25-20. Stony Brook never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Seawolves took over for good on a 4-0 run late to make it 20-17. Moore and Anderson combined for nine kills in the set, while Pierre Louis totaled three blocks.

SET 2 | Stony Brook successfully held off a late push by the Seahawks to win set two 26-24 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. Moore picked up three kills early on to make it 10-5, before scoring four more in the set t eventually make it 19-15. After another block by Pierre Louis and a kill from Anderson got Stony Brook to set point, UNCW staged a late comeback to send it to tiebreakers at 24-24. Fortunately, Another kill from Anderson got the team back to set point, leading to an ace from Carey-Jean Block to cap things off.

SET 3 | Stony Brook then finished off the match with a victory a massive 25-14 victory in set three. The Seawolves scored first and never trailed as an early 6-0 run quickly made it 8-1. Anderson and Moore continued to pile it on as they picked up six more kills. Meanwhile, the defense added another five blocks to keep UNCW from ever getting into an offensive rhythm. One final setter dump from Ava Zamora was all it took to seal the victory and send the Seawolves to the CAA Tournament.

Game Notes

» Moore is now the third Seawolf in the Division I era to reach 1500 career kills and 1000 digs.
» Moore had a match-high four aces in the win.
» Stony Brook attackers were helped by a match-high 31 assists from Zamora.
