Stony Brook Falls to Pacific in Geico Sunshine Slam Opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Seawolves began their time in Dayton Beach with a 86-58 loss to Pacific to open their time in the Geico Sunshine Slam.

How It Happened

  • Through the opening five minutes of the game Rob Brown III accounted for all of Stony Brook's scoring as he knocked down a three-pointer at 17:33. The Seawolves defense was equally stingy through the opening minutes, holding Pacific to just five points.
  • Richard Goods would score the next six Stony Brook points with a pair from behind the arc at 14:30 and 12:53 to briefly give the Seawolves a 9-7 lead. After the Tigers retook the lead with a 7-0 run from 12:27-10:45, Andrej Shoshkikj would come through with the fourth three-pointer of the day for the Seawolves to keep it close at 14-12.
  • An alley-oop from Brown III along with a layup from Oleg Kojenets and two jumpers from Collin O'Connor would account for all of Stony Brook's scoring over the final 10 minutes of the half as the Seawolves would head to the locker room down 35-20.
  • Brown III got Stony Brook on the board in the second half with his second three-pointer of the day at 18:03. The Tigers, though, expanded their lead through the early minutes of the half, going up 20 at 43-23 by the 17-minute mark.
  • Despite another six points from Pratt and four more three-pointers as a team, Pacific's lead continued to increase throughout the half, culminating in final lead of 28 points.

Stats and Notes

  • The Seawolves did not commit a single foul in the first half of the match.
  • Seven Seawolves had at least one three-pointer today, with Brown III and Goods recording two each.
  • As a team, Stony Brook shot 11-for-13 from the line, including a perfect 11-for-11 in the second half thanks to four free throws from Pratt and five from Ethan Simmon.
