Seawolves Come Up Just Short on Senior Night

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Seawolves dropped a crucial match to start to their final home weekend of the season as they were bested by N.C. A&T 3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 8-15) on Friday. While both teams still occupy the last two CAA playoff spots, the Aggies now have a two game lead of Stony Brook with three left to play.

Tonight was also Senior Night at Pritchard Gym as Stony Brook honored its lone senior Kali Moore before the match. Moore finished second on the team in kills with 14 and first in digs with 15 tonight. Quinn Anderson paced the offense with 17 kills, while Mopelola Ojo and Ayanna Pierre Louis had three blocks apiece.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Seawolves took set one 25-20 powered by a solid showing on the attacking end. Stony Brook registered a .394 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set, with Moore and Anderson totaling five each. Stony Brook took the lead for good halfway through the set as a 5-0 run made it 18-14 and gave the team enough momentum to finish off the set.

SET 2 | Stony Brook then dropped set two 25-17, evening the match at a set apiece. The set was close early on, as both teams were tied 11-11 thanks to another three kills from Anderson. The Aggies, though began to separate in the second half, holding a three-point lead at 19-16 before scoring five in a row to grow the lead to eight and ultimately take the set.

SET 3 | Stony Brook fought back following the second-set loss to grab set three and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Seawolves took the set 25-21 powered by another impressive showing by the offense as they again racked up 16 kills. Eight of those kills came from Moore, while Pierre Louis had five, including the set winner.

SET 4 | Stony Brook could not finish off a four-set win as the Aggies came back late to force a fifth set with a 25-23 victory. The closest set of the night featured seven lead changes and 14 ties as neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way. The Seawolves were on the verge of victory late in the set after kills from Ojo and Moore made it 23-22, but the Aggies fought back and scored three unanswered to tie up the match.

SET 5 | Both teams remained neck and neck at the start of the final set as N.C. A&T came out with a narrow 6-5 lead. From there, however, the Seawolves were held to just three more points in the set as the Aggies outlasted them in a 15-8 victory to finish off the match.

» Moore registered a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs, giving her 11 on the year.
» Stony Brook attackers were helped by a match-high 43 assists from Ava Zamora.
