Stony Brook Bested by Marist in Non-Conference Finale

12/21/2025 3:18:00 PM

Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - In their final non-conference game of the season, the Seawolves were unable to close things out with a win as they were downed 70-51 by Marist on the road.

The Seawolves wrap up their non-conference slate with eight wins, the program's most since the 2021-22 season.

How It Happened

  • Rob Brown III opened up scoring on the day with a three just over a minute in, before Andrej Shoshkikj added a jumper a minute later to grow the lead to 5-2. It did not take long for Marist to respond, however, as the Red Foxes went on a 12-0 run to make it 14-5 by the 14-minute mark.
  • It would take until a floater from Erik Pratt at 13:23 to finally get the Seawolves back on the board. This would not slow the Red Foxes down, though, as they extended their lead to 23-11 halfway through the period. The deficit would only continue to grow as the lead soon reached 15 points with under seven to play.
  • Trailing by 17 inside of the final four minutes, Stony Brook scored seven in a row, including five from the charity stripe to cut the lead down to 33-23. Marist would end the half with two of its own from the stripe to head to the locker room up by 12.
  • Pratt got the second half started with a driving layup 30 seconds in, followed by a deep three from Quin Gorman to make it a seven-point game and prompt an early timeout from Marist. Despite a three from Pratt to keep it close at 38-31, another 12-0 Red Fox run regrew their lead to 19 points six minutes in.
  • By the 10-minute mark, the deficit grew to 22 at 60-38. Six straight points from Ethan Simmon and Jonah Butler cut that back down to 16, but the momentum was short lived as Marist soon went back up by 20, providing enough of a cushion over the final minutes to close it out.

Stats and Notes

  • Pratt recorded his 11th double-digit scoring game of the season after finishing with ? Today. After entering the game with exactly 900 career points, he is now 89 away from 1000.
  • Tomas Valentiny made a season-high four free throws, while Simmon set a new season-high with five rebounds.
