WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Seawolves closed out the calendar year with a tough 76-57 loss at William & Mary in Wednesday's nationally broadcasted New Year's Eve game.
How It Happened
- The Seawolves fell into an early 9-0 hole as they were held scoreless through the first three minutes. After Erik Pratt got the team on the board with a layup at 16:51, Richard Goods followed up with a three and Andrej Shoshkikj with a bucket as well to pull within two. A dunk from Goods and a triple from Rob Brown III would later tie things up at 12-12 six minutes in.
- Brown and Quin Gorman would continue to lay it on from behind the arc to keep it a five-point game halfway through the period. Later, with just under six minutes to go, Brown III went on an elite tear from behind the arc, making three more threes in just two minutes to make it 29-25.
- With under four minutes to go, William & Mary went on a 7-0 run to retake a 32-29 lead. Two more from the line from Pratt would help close out the half with Stony Brook trailing by just three.
- The Tribe quickly added five points in the first minute to grow their lead to nine points. Pratt managed to bring to bring that down to three after making a pair of layups and a three just over three minutes in.
- W&M, though, soon rebuilt its lead as the Tribe went up 54-42 with just over 12 minutes to go. After a strip and a score from Jonah Butler at 11:53 cut the deficit back down to eight, Stony Brook went on a nearly five-minute scoreless stretch, ending with a jumper from Simmon at 7:19 with the team then trailing 57-48.
- The deficit grew to 15 in the final five minutes as the Seawolves could not slow down the Tribe, being outscored 15-9 down the stretch.
Stats and Notes
- Brown III recorded his eighth double-digit scoring game after going 5-for-7 from behind the arc for 15 points.
- Goods had eight rebounds in the first half alone as he finished the day with a season-high 14.
- Pratt recorded his 13th double-digit scoring game of the season after finishing with 19 today.
