Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Stony Brook fell on the road at Harvard, 67-33, on Friday morning in Massachusetts. Janay Brantley led the Seawolves offense with 13 points, while Caitlin Frost contributed nine points and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook struggled out of the gate, falling behind by 19 points before Brantley opened the scoring for the Seawolves with 2:26 remaining in the opening stanza. Diaka Berete added a basket down the stretch and Brantley closed out the quarter with a pair of free throws, but Stony Brook faced an early 19-point deficit after the first quarter. The Seawolves committed seven turnovers in the first 10 minutes, leading to 13 Harvard points.

Defensively, Stony Brook held Harvard to 3-14 (21.4%) shooting in the second quarter, allowing just seven points. Offensively, Stony Brook's struggles continued and the Seawolves were not able to cut into their deficit. Brantley recorded Stony Brook's lone field goal of the quarter. Harvard carried a 32-11 advantage into the intermission in Cambridge.

Stony Brook's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Seawolves faced a 49-24 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Stony Brook played much better offensively out of the halftime break, scoring 10 of its 13 points in the paint. Stony Brook could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 67-33.

  • Brantley, Frost and Johanna Potter combined to account for 76 percent of the Seawolves' points.
  • Stony Brook's defense forced 15 turnovers. The Seawolves committed 25 turnovers and Harvard scored 27 points off of turnovers.

UP NEXT
Stony Brook returns home to host St. John's on Wednesday, December 10. The Seawolves and Red Storm are scheduled for a 7 pm tip-off at Stony Brook Arena on SNY. The contest marks the first of three at home to close out the non-conference slate and calendar year for Stony Brook.
