Gartner Wins 3000m, As Men's Track & Field Record Nine Top-Eight Finishes at Giegengack Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. The Stony Brook men's track and field team wrapped up the indoor regular season on Saturday with a plethora of strong performances at the 18th annual Giegengack Invitational. The Seawolves produced nine top-eight placements as a team, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 3000m from Henry Gartner


HIGHLIGHTS
  • Gartner continued his impressive season on Saturday by winning the 3000m race. His time of 8:21.60 was a new PR for the event and established a new team season best.
  • Michael Hawkes took second in the 3000m with a strong 8:23.56 clocking good to set a new PR.
  • Thomas Burfeind ran a second-place finish in the 1000m, setting a new PR and season-best time (2:28.62).
  • Mario Xerri finished third in the 1000m with a solid final time of 2:31.77.
  • Ethan Green ran Stony Brook's best mile run of the season, finishing third and setting a new PR at 4:12.06.
  • Ryan Hesler took fourth in the mile run, setting a new PR at 4:13.71.
  • Joseph Bertola placed fifth in the 3000m (8:28.94), which was good for a new PR.
  • Walesky Nowak finished seventh in the 400m race, setting a new PR and season-best time for the event (50.33).
  • Luca Maneri produced a solid run in the 3000m, placing eighth (8:44.46).
  • The Seawolves' nine top-eight placements were the most at an event this indoor season.
  • Seven runners who finished in the top eight set new PRs in their events, with four of those times becoming new season bests.

"Today, we got some really nice final tune-up runs for the conference meet in two weeks," said head coach Andy Ronan. "Once again, Henry and Michael are showing that they are in a good place as they head to the CAA meet. Ethan and Ryan are also looking sharper with their mile runs."

UP NEXT
With the indoor regular season now over, Stony Brook will turn its focus to championship season, which will kick off on Feb. 26 and 27 at the CAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Va.
